Motherhood Mix Issue 002

The Motherhood Mix Issue 002

This week, we’ve been doing a lot of juggling. Work has started to pick back up for me and I’m starting to realize that I probably can’t continue trying to do my job and take care of two kids by myself. At least, not if I want to stay remotely sane. TBD on what the answer is. But, the picture painted by this week’s “top pick” doesn’t sound very hopeful.

Also, I think the unfairness of this whole situation is starting to really hit me. It’s been making me feel sad and sorry for myself and, at the same time, has made me realize how much privilege I have. Perhaps these are things I should be journaling about. 🧐

I hope you’re all doing well. Sorry to be a bit of a Debbie Downer this week. We’ve got some cool webcams from the Georgia Aquarium and some pretty hilarious tweets from parents. I hope you enjoy and have a great week!

This Week's Top Pick

A Second Childcare Crisis

One CEO believes the closures and layoffs that have occurred in the childcare industry will still be felt after we go back to “normal.” This is definitely something to think about and prepare for as the health guidelines may reduce capacity even at the facilities that are able to survive.

Motherhood

The Georgia Aquarium has some pretty cool webcams. The jelly webcam is surprisingly relaxing! I think my girls enjoyed the alligator webcam the most.

This mom is so right! This whole experience has been a lot like the early months of motherhood. She writes, “it’s waking up one morning and realizing life as you knew it is being flipped upside down. It’s doubting whether you’re up to this challenge, but forcing yourself to try because your family needs you. It’s understanding how much you took for granted in your daily life now that those simple freedoms are no longer an option. It’s putting on a brave face, even though you’re scared, lost and there doesn’t appear to be an end in sight.” Ah, so true!

Relationships

The older I get, the more I realize that my relationship with myself is really what affects all of my other relationships. That’s not something that seems to be addressed much. So, when I saw this article titled: “The Often Overlooked Factor That Has The Biggest Impact on Your Relationship,” I was kind of shocked that the answer was your own wholeness

Career

According to a study, 14% of women have considered quitting their jobs because of the pandemic. 🙋‍♀️ 🙋‍♀️ 🙋‍♀️ I’m honestly surprised the number isn’t a lot higher.

If you’ve been finding yourself being talked over in online meetings, you’re not alone. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been talked over and how many times my male coworkers continue talking over each other to the point that you can’t understand what anyone is saying. 🙄

Taking Care of You

Before life turned upside down, I started a morning routine that included meditating and journaling. After reading these 10 benefits, I realize I should really get back to journaling.

This list of the funniest tweets from parents made me giggle. It’s where our “laugh of the week” came from.

Coming soon: I’m planning a special issue with curated Mother’s Day gifts! Get ready to treat yo’ self. 😉
